2010 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - Feb. 9, 2010

PGSL Players, Parents, Coaches and Sponsors,

Welcome to the Pleasanton Girls Softball League 2010 season. The Board of Directors and I look forward to another phenomenal year. We will continue with the history of premier softball programs by providing quality softball for every player (ages 5 to 18) in PGSL. Our mission is to promote competitive play, sportsmanship, skill development and most importantly making it fun for the girls. We have expanded our softball programs so that the girls can play and train year round. We are in our 2nd year of partnership with The Total Playing Center (TPC) and we provide references for several pitching and hitting coaches/instructors throughout the East Bay. PGSL now requires all coaches to have ACE certification so that they can receive additional training and coaching support throughout the 2010 season.

In the summer of 2009, we had seven Phantom teams and our 10U and 12U teams played in the National Championship Tournament. We fielded four teams for Fall 2009 including a 14U Phantom “A” Team. The Fall Training Program for the Mini and Minor divisions was extended for the second year and we will continue this program in 2010. We had continued success with our Inter-league programs with Livermore and SRVGAL that will expand in 2010. Our summer classic tournament draws teams from all over Northern California. We had over 60 teams in 2009 and are planning for another premier Summer Classic Tournament from July 9th – 11th 2010.

Volunteering and sponsorships drives the success of our league. We appreciate all of our sponsors and thank you for your generosity. We are still looking for Sponsors in the upcoming 2010 season. We are always looking for those interested in coaching, as well as helping in administrative positions on our board of directors. We want each player, family and coach to have a successful and rewarding season. The Board of Director’s are committed to creating a safe, fun and rewarding experience for all of the girls while developing their softball skills, teaching them about competition and sportsmanship. Based on feedback from our Parents and in depth discussion, the Board of Directors voted to eliminate the terminology of “Uppers” and “Recreation” and changed to naming our divisions by PGSL colors, Black, Teal and White. We are testing placement in our Mini division so that we can provide age appropriate training and development.

We are off to a great start for the 2010 Spring Season with registration exceeding 2009. Based on feedback and input from our families we will not have games on either weekend of Spring Break. This will give our teams, coaches and parents the opportunity to extend time off with their family vacations during Spring Break.

We look forward to a great year and appreciate all the help from our volunteers and sponsors!
