Do you have a question that is not here? Or
don't understand an answer that is here? Don't be shy - Let us know
at
pgsl@pleasantonsoftball.org , and we'll
update this page to provide more information
for everybody.
Why do we register do early?
We register starting September so that we can order the uniforms and equipment
so they will be available for Opening Day. Also,
the upper division coaches are presented and
approved at the September board meeting. This
allows the ball to get rolling for tryouts held
in October. Those girls wishing to play in an
upper division are required to tryout. Once
tryouts are over the upper division director
tabulates the ratings and gives them to the
upper division coaches for review before the
draft is held. After the draft is finished in
early November, the recreational division directors
recruit the required number of coaches needed
for their divisions so the remaining girls can
be placed on teams. The practice field draw
is held during the coaches meeting in early
February, and practice at the sports park officially
starts on March 1.
What happens if I do not register by January 1?
If you do not register by January 1, you are
not guaranteed a spot on a team. In early
January,
recreational teams are formed by the number
of girls registered. As those divisions are
filled up, a waiting list is started and the
girls are placed on it in the order in which
the registrar receives them. We make every effort
to accommodate and place late registrants on
teams, but there is no guarantee. We continue
to accept registrations up until Opening Day.
Why didn't I get any notification? The league does one non-profit bulk mail of
our newsletter in September. All other notices
are sent via email. If you move at anytime during
the year or your email changes, even after the
season has ended, please give registrar, Dalice
Godwin, a call at 462-5608 or e-mail your change
to ponyperf@comcast.net so our records can be
updated for future mailings. Please check the
website (pleasantonsoftball.org) often for all
current information.
What is "Black",
"Teal", and "White"? We have
three divisions named Black, Teal and White.
Black will be a more competitive division.
Teal will be a competitive recreational
division. White will be purely a
recreational division.
How are divisions organized? There are 10 different divisions established
based on player's age and ability. We have elected
to group players by grade in school. This is
primarily for simplicity, and is different from
the ASA rule, which goes by a player's age as
of Jan 1st of the year being played in. The
PGSL divisions do parallel the age-based divisions
as defined by ASA, but in some cases girls may
end up in a different division than they are
qualified for. This is usually not an issue,
except in the upper divisions, and players who
think they qualify may petition the board to
"play up" in the next older division if they
wish (discuss this with the division directors).
Three age groups have both a "rec" and an "upper"
division. The Divisions are as follows:

What is the Phantom program?
Ever wonder about those jackets and sweatshirts
with the "Phantom" logo that you see the girls
wearing at school and around the Sports Park?
They are members of Pleasanton Girls Softball
League's "Jr. Olympic Softball Traveling Teams".
PGSL conducts tryouts in April for selection
of our annual summer teams which compete in
ASA Sanctioned Tournaments through out the Greater
Bay Area & California. Phantom teams in all
age groups have acquitted themselves well in
recent years, with many earning invitations
to the "National Tournaments" held in August
in such faraway locales as Washington state,
Colorado, Missouri, New Mexico and Texas. There
are also Fall Phantom teams. Tryouts are in
Aug/Sept. The fall teams generally compete in
4 to 6 tournaments, between the months of Sept.
and Dec., throughout the bay area.
When will I be contacted
by my coach? What team am I on?
The Black Division coaches hold their draft
in late October so the coaches should contact
their team members in November and the other
division coaches should contact their team members
by early to mid-February. If you have not been contacted
by a coach by that time frame, please contact
the appropriate division director.
What's the minimum age for
Jr. Umpires and snack bar workers?
You must be in the 7th grade or above in order
to be a Junior Umpire. Training classes are
available. If you are interested please contact
one of our
Directors of Umpires. If you are 13 years
of age/7th grade or older and can add and subtract
quickly, you can work in the PGSL snack bar.
Our
Snack Bar Director can answer any questions
you may have and add you to the approved worker
list.
Are face masks/guards required
for our batting helmets?
Face masks/guards are required equipment for
the regular season for any team using the
hard balls. However, facemasks are recommended
for all levels. All Junior Olympic fast pitch
batting helmets must be equipped with a NOCSAE
approved face mask/guard.
